SOCIETY PG CLUB TRIPS CULTURALS
Botany Department (Department name has been reverted back to BOTANY) is proposed to organize  a three day National Symposium on VISTAS IN BIODIVERSITY, BIOLOGY, BIOTECHNOLOGY AND NANOTECHNOLOGY OF ALGAE (VBBBNA 2018) on 20- 22
of SEPTEMBER, 2018 in collaboration with Seaweed Research and Utilization Association of India, Chidambaram and Krishnamurthy Institute of Algology, Chennai. A special session is to be conducted in honor of Prof.V.S.Sundaralingam on his birth centenary falling this year.

Botany Department (Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology) organized  a two day National Symposium on Current Trends in Plant Sciences (NSCTPS18) on 22nd 23rd
of February, 2018 followed by an alumni meet on 24th February 2018. A large number alumni members came and attended the alumni meet scheduled on 24th February.

Dr.K.R.Venkatasubban  Inter-College
Oratorical Competition

The Inter-College competition among students of city colleges was first started in the year 1970-1971.  It has been named after the former Professor and Head of the Department of Botany, Madras Christian College, Dr. K.R. Venkatasubban.  He served the department as HoD and teacher with total dedication and commitment from 1945-1968. He is remembered by his students and former colleagues for his inspiring scholarly lectures.  The rolling trophy is awarded to the best team adjudged by a panel of subject experts and individual prizes as well to the best speakers.  The department has been organizing this annual event bringing together specially trained students to participate and compete.

Dr.Pon Samuel Jeyakumar:
Former Professor of the Department of Botany visited on this day. He gave a very inspiring talk on the higher educational  opportunities for PG students as a part of the PG seminar club. Interestingly the talk was organized in the space in front of the library.
Dr. Jai Prakash Keshri, Department of Botany, The University of Burdwan, Burdwan - 713104, West Bengal, INDIA.
visited the department on Monday, 29th February, 2016. With him came his wife, Prof. N.Anand, Former Vice Chancelor, Vels University and Former Director, Centre for Advanced Study in Botany, University of Madras and Prof. R. Rengasamy, Former Director, CAS in Botany, University of Madras. Dr. Jai Prakash Keshri has given a special lecture in the PG Seminar Club on the "Glamourous algae". All Professors intracted with the Ph.D. Scholars in the algology lab, Ms. A.Megala and Ms. K. Maheswari.
